Apparently (from what I can gather), Israel has been arming Palestinian militia groups and then telling them to go and attack Hamas, when the militia's find they are no match for battle hardened Hamas, Israeli troops came to the armed militia's rescue and some Israeli soldiers got injured in the crossfire. Now after getting permission from totally (cough) unbiased Jewish American mediators Israel has launched more than 20 air strikes against Hamas.
