The IRA were not a State but rather a splinter group of the State of Ireland (Eire). Although the IRA have abandoned their armed struggle, the State of Ireland has NOT been disarmed and neither should they be! Every State and that includes the State of Palestine is allowed to have armed forces. No State (except Israel) are allowed to mount an unprovoked armed attack on another State. This idea that Palestine (when it's formed) should not have weapons to defend itself from Israeli aggression is a non starter. OK Hamas is a toxic brand but their fighters WILL need to be incorporated into the armed forces of the newly formed State.
